Hi, I'm Amanda – designer, editor, and the person behind Acorn Studio.
I started Acorn Studio because I want to help brilliant creative and design-led businesses have a website or brand that does them justice.
I'm a potter myself, so I know what it's like to pour everything into your work and feel completely out of your depth when it comes to putting it online. And for a decade, I sat on the other side of the desk, at Houzz, one of the world's leading interior design platforms, helping designers and design-led businesses tell their story properly.
Where I come from
I've spent 20 years working as a journalist and content marketing professional, including a decade at Houzz, where I worked closely with interior designers every day, writing about their projects, understanding what makes a portfolio compelling, and learning exactly what potential clients are looking for before they pick up the phone.
I also hold a Certificate in Residential Interior Design from KLC School of Design, so I bring a genuine, trained understanding of the industry.
That background means that when I build a website or brand for an interior designer, I'm not guessing at what matters. I know how to present a portfolio so it sells the work, how to write copy that speaks to the right clients, and how to make a site that holds up against the standard your industry expects.
And for makers and creatives, that same editorial instinct applies – a trained eye for what works, the ability to tell your story clearly, and genuine design obsession that goes well beyond knowing how to use Squarespace.
Why small design-led businesses
I want to champion small businesses and give them the same quality of design as the bigger brands, without the big agency price tag, the six-month timeline, or the feeling that the project is too small to matter.
Your project is never too small, and in fact, it's exactly what I'm here for.
I work with one client at a time, for one focused week. That means when it's your week, you have my complete attention, and you walk away with something that genuinely reflects the care and craft you put into your own work.
A few things about me
I'm based in south London. When I'm not designing, you'll find me at my wheel. I'm endlessly interested in how things are made, why some things are beautiful, and how good design, whether it's a website, a brand, or a room, can change the way people feel about a business.
